Michael, of course your opinion counts. Maybe more since you use your bike instead of your car.

But a couple of corrections:

OHNA was never against a rec center going up at the corner of Cherry and Cary (as in VCU’s 2002 Master Plan). It objected to the much larger plan that took the alley, demolished stables (which had been already renovated), and increased the height and mass of the buildings. Yes, there are also still traffic concerns with more rec center use.

VCU could be a good neighbor and help with getting the urban business rezoning and parking restrictions needed for Cary St.

Please help Oregon Hill hold VCU accountable for promises it made to allow all of the community to use the rec center. Please help us make sure this rec center is done with green building and sustainability in mind.

Im glad VCU is renovating the old auditorium (inc old stable) & adding on to it for more swimmin, basketball, martial arts, yoga, gymnastics, rock climbing, etc. (VCU Rec membership is much better deal than Gold’s Gym or the Y)

Traffic & parking might not change since the basketball games, graduations etc will still be at the Seigle Ctr on Broad.

in all the years I lived in Oregon Hill I never once used ‘historic’ Green Alley, but I’m always on a bike anyways so my opinion doesn’t really count….

I’m just glad the old auditorium will be around for another century. I hope the 800 block of Cary gets fixed up too – those porches are nice …. but i miss Harvey’s Hardware
