Downtown Robbery (including suspect’s picture)

I note that this did not occur in the Oregon Hill neighborhood, but close by in downtown. I am not trying to feed into any anti-downtown paranoia (these crimes happen everywhere), but I want people to be careful, be aware, and help catch this guy if they can.

E-mail Advisory 12/26/08
Richmond Police Department
Robbery/Abduction

Richmond Police needs the public’s help with identifying and locating the man pictured below who robbed and abducted a woman at gunpoint early this morning.

The victim was in front of the city library at First and Franklin streets at 6 a.m. when the man approached her and asked for directions. He then produced a firearm and asked for money. The victim was forced into the suspect’s vehicle at gunpoint and driven to an ATM where she was instructed to withdraw money.

This suspect is approximately 5’7 -5’8, 150 pounds with a thin/pencil line mustache and beard. He was armed with a black semi-automatic unknown caliber weapon and should be considered armed and dangerous.

If you recognize the man in this picture or have any information, please call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.

Thanks for publishing this Scott. This guy needs to be taken off the street asap. This occurred literally withing steps of my front door. The victim was a Fan resident walking to work. Fortunately she was unharmed.

Could this be connected to the book store robbery/attempted sexual assault on Cary st later that day? The description of the suspect doesn’t seem to be too far off…
