Small Business Vandalized

For the second time in only a few weeks, the ex-Chuckwagon, ex-Hollywood Grill restaurant has tagged by graffiti vandals. The current owners, who also operate the Pescado’s seafood restaurant on the Southside, have been doing lots of work on the building in preparation for opening, including installing new windows. Sadly, those were also marred last night by the graffiti.

There have been several troubling reports of vandalism against the community in the last week, which include ripped fences and stolen signs from Hollywood Cemetery, broken bottles on sidewalks, and now this.

  1. The tag on the grill looks similar to an older white paint tag on a shed in the north-south between the 600 block of Laurel and Pine. Needless to say, I hope whoever did this receives a swift kick in the balls by Lady Justice.

  2. This “art” is the same as those on the red wall @ China and Belvidere cul-de-sac (this paint has been there for a few weeks). Check it out…definitely not an isolated incident.

  3. Only a complete coward would do something like this. Wouldnt it be nice to catch this moron and spray paint the inside of his mouth. And to think some people call it art, hell even the rag style magazine had an issue where the main story was art criticism of local graffiti, its liberalism run amuck!

  5. Say what you want, and I have made it clear that I am far less about prosecuting VCU students than going after a largely silent, indifferent VCU administration, but Oregon Hill did not experience this level of graffiti and nuisance crime before so many VCU students moved into the neighborhood.

To the VCU students who do care, please make it clear that this will not be tolerated in the VCU community, whether it be in Oregon Hill, Jackson Ward, or directly on the VCU campus, whether it be by students, neighbors, or visitors. We ALL need to do our part.

  7. That looks like an exercise that should have stayed on a practice page of his sketch book. I’m much more tolerant of colorful flower power graffiti than big sloppy tags. Is Pescado’s open already?

  8. For what its worth, VCU posts “literature” above the urinals to “pass the time”. This month has tips for students regarding their conduct in off-campus neighborhoods (noise, trash etc.), specifically mentioning O-Hill, the fan, Carver etc. I believe it is posted by the SGA or a similar group.

  9. I wonder what it would cost to rent the space over the urinal in the bathroom of the VCU presidents office?
