From Press Release:

Oregon Hill Themed Art Show in September
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church to Host

Bishop Coadjutor Shannon Johnston of the Diocese of Virginia planted the seed of an art show celebrating Oregon Hill.

The Reverend Abbott Bailey, rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church at 236 South Laurel Street, would like to see that seed grow. “I am really excited about this.”

The art show will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2009, 12:00 to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday, September 27, 2009, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, in the St. Andrew’s Parish House.

Oregon Hill is a vibrant community with a little bit of everything – students, young professionals, lifetime residents, funky restaurants and shops, even a thriving farmer’s market. St. Andrew’s sees an art show focusing on Oregon Hill as an opportunity for a unique form of outreach to its neighbors and to Richmond and beyond. The hope is for this to become an annual event.

To test the waters for the first show, St. Andrew’s contacted local watercolor artist Anthony Creech to develop an exhibition focused on the Oregon Hill scene. “It’s a big challenge,” said Creech, “but it is an exciting one. I want to celebrate all of the neighborhood; not just the architectural landmarks, but the alleys, denizens, and all the hidden treasures that give Oregon Hill its offbeat personality.”

The art show will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2009, 12:00 to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday, September 27, 2009, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, in the St. Andrew’s Parish House.
