Latest Draft of Richmond Riverfront Plan

Yesterday, the City’s Planning and Development Review announced and released “the Final Draft of the Richmond Riverfront Plan” (click here for large PDF).

Pages 26 to 29, the part of the Plan that deals with “Tredegar Green”, seem most applicable to Oregon Hill. I did not see anything about moving the Confederate White House.

The proposed 2nd Street Connector road is still in the plan, although many questions have still not been answered. More on this soon.

  1. These were the parts that stuck out to me:
    “Preceding
studies advocated for the restoration of the canal westward to Maymont Park. Canal boats could carry passengers
along a 1.8 mile run between Maymont Park and Tredegar Green. All public improvements to and investments in
Tredegar Green should support the goal of westward (or appropriate) canal restoration, as the canal could once
again become a functioning connective conduit, a historic blueway.”

    and

“The existing public parking lot will be reconfigured yet remain intact as a key universally-accessible trailhead,
allowing pedestrians and cyclists to head off to Belle Isle, Brown’s Island, and beyond. The existing path and bridge
connection to Oregon Hill merits greater attention, with the objective of an accessible route connecting Oregon Hill
Parkway to the Lee Pedestrian Bridge for those headed to Belle Isle, and then continuing on down to Tredegar Street.
The existing pedestrian bridge spanning the canal bed is not yet fully accessible; a replacement bridge is in the works
during the short term. A universally-accessible route linking the Tredegar parking lot to the North Bank Trail and
along the canal bed to the Tredegar Iron Works will greatly improve the public perception that this pivotal connection
is both safe and traversable for all. “
