End of July/Lease Trash Still A Problem

Until the City holds landlords and their tenants more accountable, expect these issues to continue.
The Fan gets free standing dumpsters to address this problem. Perhaps we should ask our councilman or the Mayor for some.

I agree with Todd Woodson about the dumpsters. It’s up to the neighborhoods to request dumpsters for students to use when they are leaving town or coming into town for the school session. The “city” can only do so much with the resources available. You could also request the police to place cameras at the worst locations for dumping debris so they can perhaps “catch them in the act” like the grafitti artists. A city property maintenance inspector can only cite the property owner where the debris has been left on their property. Then it’s up to the owner to get rid of the debris, whether it’s his trash or not. All they have to do is call 311 and request a bulk trash pickup. BUT, if there is loose litter and garbage. that has to be cleaned up and placed into a container. The Neighborhood Assn. could also have quarterly cleanups to help keep the neighborhood maintained and reach out to the students living in the area to help.
Your neighborhood inspector is doing what they can within the law, but there are also habitual violators that just don’t care about their neighborhoods.
Well, maybe if Oregon Hill was a ‘corporate partnership’ that could “partner” with the City, we might be able to more resources from the CIty-

Venture Richmond contracts with Community Business Group to provide sidewalk cleaning services in the Downtown area. This is part of the Downtown Clean & Safe Program which is administered by Venture Richmond on behalf of the City of Richmond and the downtown property owners.
The Downtown Clean & Safe program provides sidewalk cleaning services and safety ambassadors for a 144-block area of downtown Richmond. The program helps maintain a clean, attractive and orderly downtown. Mayor Jones and James Watkins will discuss the importance of the Clean & Safe program to downtown Richmond and unveil new equipment for the program’s use.
