So I had some free time and, as a concerned Oregon Hill resident, did a little internet searching (dangerous, I know) to see what else I could find out about the property. In the building permit you all posted on Oct. 8, it listed Emory Powers is listed as the owner who has owned it since 2000 when he purchased it from R V BELVEDERE ASSOCIATES II. It appears Mr. Powers owns several other properties in the Oregon Hill area and has owned other properties in the RVA area, including the building where the old Common Groundz was. A 2009 article in Richmond BizSense says of Mr. Powers “after 40 years flipping real estate, he doesn’t have the patience for it anymore” and a 2013 CBS6 article mentions Mr. Powers as an Oregon Hill resident. However, some further internet searching suggests that the property may have been sold on October 14, 2014 to a Molly Taylor Vick, who also owns several properties in Oregon Hill on Pine Street. The CBS6 video says Mark Holmberg “went by the property owner’s home tonight but she wasn’t at home” so I am wondering if Molly Taylor Vick might actually be the she who currently owns the property.
