Congratulations to Oregon Hill neighbor Ed Vasai. Two of his restaurants, Edo’s Squid and Mamma Zu’s (which is in Oregon Hill), were at the top of the Best Italian Restaurant category in Style Magazine’s annual Best of Richmond issue.

Both Edo’s Squid and Mamma ‘Zu are owned by Ed Vasaio, and you could say that the restaurants are two sides of the same coin. Edo’s is the natty modern younger brother, while Mamma ‘Zu isn’t comfortable out of its jeans and flannel shirt.

Photo taken this morning. Alley conditions were a big source of conversation last night at the neighborhood association meeting (maybe we start a GoFundMe campaign for gravel?). This problem has been in existence for years, and I keep going back to an earlier post about the future of our alleys.

Richmond firefighters found the body of Ronda M. Moss, 48, of the 600 block of Robcurn Drive in Henrico, about 2 p.m. Monday near the Mayo Bridge, police said.
On Sunday, witnesses told police they had seen a woman leap from the Lee Bridge about 10:30 p.m., and officers found an unoccupied vehicle on the span.

This Wednesday is a red Wednesday, which means trash and recycling pickup. Ideally, rolling recycling containers are stored and deployed in the back alleys along with trash cans. Please make sure you pick up containers after pickup tomorrow night.

A couple of additional notes:
Locally, with the school year drawing to a close, it is time for student renters and others who are moving to consider how to deal with all of their stuff. With the City budget strained, it is important that stuff is recycled and disposed of properly, without just dumping it on the sidewalk, street, and alley. I am happy to post neighborhood yard sale notices on this site. There are also certainly a number of local thrift stores and charities that are willing to receive furniture donations.
Sadly, the 5th District Cleanup/RVA Cleansweep event this past Saturday was cancelled due to weather, but there is an Oregon Hill alley cleanup scheduled for June 4th, organized by Cherry Street neighbor Jimmy Blackford.
There’s been lot of internet/social media interest in these new edible/biodegradable six pack beer can rings. Will local breweries implement them?
