Trash/Recycling Pickup Tomorrow

This Wednesday is a red Wednesday, which means trash and recycling pickup. Ideally, rolling recycling containers are stored and deployed in the back alleys along with trash cans. Please make sure you pick up containers after pickup tomorrow night.

If you have not done so already, don’t forget to sign up for your Recycling Perks.

In Virginia recycling news, students at Yorktown High School in Arlington, Virginia, are petitioning the high school to upgrade its recycling efforts by replacing current trash and recycle bins with integrated waste receptacles with clearly labeled bins for “recyclables” and “landfill.” Students are concerned that the current blue recycling bins at the school are being treated as regular trash cans by a majority of students, undermining the school’s recycling effort. Please consider signing their petition (click here for link) and encourage this to be a statewide effort.

  1. Also, from email:

    Hi All

The Sustainable RVA Zero Waste Initiative group is meeting this Wednesday 5:30 to 7:30, VCU, Aspire Building, West Grace Street Student Housing South, 835 West Grace, Room 1004g. We would love to have any of you who are interested in attending.

We will hear a brief presentation on the Richmond Food Co-op. We will talk about trying to develop a compost drop off program at the Farmer’s Market, discuss our possible role in a new Keep Virginia Beautiful cigarette butt litter reduction program, and I will share some information about an awesome EPA webinar on Sustainable Materials Management that has many models of programs across the country that our group might want to implement in our region, and more.

Also for those who were planning on attending the Vegetarian Festival, the festival has been postponed. I just got an email tonight saying that lots of trees are down blocking roads and there is no way the festival could go on this weekend. New date is July 9th. Hope some of you can make it then, we will be having a table at the festival on July 9th.

Please feel free to email me with any questions and follow us on facebook at facebook.com/SRVAZeroWaste.

    Thanks so much

    Sarah Woodhouse
