All are invited to the St. Andrew’s Annual Santa Breakfast in Baldwin Hall (of the school building) from 9-11 am on Saturday, December 3, 2016. Christmas Shop, Pancake and Sausage Breakfast, photos with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. Breakfast is $3.50 per person or $10 for families.
Early Bird Registration for Shiver in the River Ends Today
What are you missing out on by not registering now for Richmond’s most epic polar plunge? How about the chance to win an overnight stay at the Hilton in downtown Richmond on either Friday or Saturday of Shiver weekend (January 28, 2017), a $50 gift card at Hilton’s new 1885 Cafe & Market, and a $50 gift card to Penny Lane Pub. Pretty sweet swag, I’d say.
In other news, KVB’s Mike Baum tells me the 5K that precedes the Shiver will incorporate the T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge (a.k.a. the T-Pot Bridge), which Brown’s Island and Manchester. The exact route hasn’t been mapped yet, he said, but it should be the first race in Richmond to include the gleaming new pedestrian bridge (which opens this Friday night at 6 p.m.).

Recount
The Times Dispatch is reporting that…
Richmond School Board member Mamie Taylor has filed a petition in Circuit Court requesting a recount in the campaign she lost Nov. 8 to a local doctor.
…
Taylor is asking that the city pick up the tab for the recount “because the difference in votes cast for myself, School Board Trustee Taylor and Patrick Sapini is less than one-half of 1 percent.”
A hearing on the petition is scheduled for noon Wednesday in Richmond.
The article also questions Taylor’s math in her filing for the recount.
At the same time, turning to the Presidential election, Style magazine says that Oregon Hill may once again be the most-Green voting neighborhood in the whole state.
Which is pretty interesting given that Green Party candidate Stein is now getting more media attention for calling for some state recounts than she did for her entire campaign.
While is unlikely that Stein will call for a recount in Virginia, I would not totally rule out the possibility either. As she explains, it’s up to everyone to stand up for election integrity. Don’t believe all the misinformation going around, Stein is not doing this for Clinton or Trump, and the Green Party has a history for defending voters’ rights to be counted properly.

The names are taken from Charles Wallace’s The Boy Gangs of Richmond in the Dear Old Days: A Page of the City’s Lesser History, an out-of-print history of the city’s rapscallion youth by Charles M. Wallace from 1938.
Leaf Collection/Street Cleaning and The Tireless Jimmy Blackford
Cherry Street neighbor Jimmy Blackford and I worked on dislodging leaves and dirt from sidewalks and gutters in preparation for City’s upcoming leaf collection and street cleaning. It would be great if other neighbors could do the same. It is supposed to rain Tuesday and Wednesday, so hopefully it will get done before then. Don’t forget to move those cars!
