The Labor Day quiet was disturbed this afternoon by an accident at S. Pine and Spring. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Just received this timely reminder from the Richmond Police Department:
Drive Safely, Back to School Begins Tomorrow
September 5, 2016
Motorists are urged to use extra caution on the roads as students head back to class on Tuesday for the start of a new school year.
School buses will roll through city streets, picking up students from bus stops and ferrying them to schools across the city. Children will also be walking to school along city sidewalks.
“School safety is always a priority,” said Chief Alfred Durham. “As school begins, we will have officers driving by schools and bus stops as well as visiting school buildings to make their presence know, interact with the youth and help facilitate a safe learning environment for the students.”
Police ask motorists to drive safely at all times, especially in school zones, and to be aware of students at bus stops. Drivers are reminded that passing a stopped school bus with its lights flashing is a traffic violation that could result in a significant fine.
Amidst the brick sidewalk repair, there was this accident this morning. Notes: the City of Richmond’s traffic and hazards site is not updating. While there have been neighbor requests for four way stop signs and suggested roundabouts in the past, this intersection is still where one way Laurel goes through two way Spring with stop signs on Spring.
Neighbor says “Child involved. Will be very good to get the roundabout in.”
Click here for the last status given for the roundabout project.
There was a bad accident Sunday morning shortly after 8 am at the corner of Idlewood and Belvidere.
Paraphrased from a neighbor:
One of the officers on the scene said it was the result of a high speed chase with the suspect apprehended. The officer said the motorist had also struck a bicyclist further west of Oregon Hill. 3-4 cars were involved in the accident, with 2 people taken away in ambulances (the suspect presumably being one of them). There was also speculation from onlookers that the suspect was either mentally unstable or drugs were involved.
There was an accident this afternoon involving a school bus. A witness said a woman ran a light and hit the bus.
Thankfully, there does not seem to be any serious injuries.
