End of An Era – Mojo’s Announces Closing Date

Mojo’s staff made this announcement on their Facebook page:

Big announcement time (prepare your tears): after October 11th 2020 we will be no-Mo’-jo’s. Aka: we’re closing on October 11th (that will be the last day we will have service) for an undetermined amount of time. It’s been a wild ride these last twenty (or so?) years, but it’s time to say our goodbyes to 733 west cary street. Come in and see us for the next few weeks that we’ll be open (and seriously, you’re going to be saying goodbye to these cheesesteaks and wings so it’s now or never!) We’ll miss and love you all forever!! #mojos4ever

Known for their cheesesteak sandwiches, Mojo’s will certainly be missed as an independent neighborhood business.

Mojo’s Announces Rules For Dining In

Mojo’s, at the corner of S. Laurel and W.Cary, is attempting to open again for dining inside with new rules in place:

– we only have 6 tables available for the moment
– two of those tables allow for a MAXIMUM of 6 people
– we will have to split up parties of 7 or more and seat you at separate tables
– we take reservations! We suggest you give us a call and let us know you’re coming in ESPECIALLY if you have more than 4 people in your party (tables are super limited)
– you just wear a mask ALWAYS unless seated at a table (this includes trips to the bathroom, getting up to pay, and any other reason you are not seated at a table)
– use the hand sanitizer at the front of the restaurant upon entering
– Eatstreet is still in the process of updating our new menu. To place an order for pickup or delivery tonight, give us a call at 804-644-6676
This is a new experience for us, so please be patient with us as we navigate through new guidelines. We want to provide the safest possible visit for you, so please be mindful of the rules we have posted. Excited to see ya’ll again (for more than a couple minutes😘)!

“L’O Unplugged”

Neighborhood restaurant L’Opossum at China and Pine streets, is starting a new program in response to the pandemic. The French & Southern-infused (James Beard-nominated!) spot rolled out their to-go menu, “L’O Unplugged”, which offers take-and-bake versions of the restaurant’s most popular dishes (and some new ones), available for carryout Thursday through Saturday. All orders must be placed 24 hours prior to pick-up. They are not accepting gift cards for online orders but look forward to honoring them once their dining room reopens.

Pizza Flyers

While Oregon Hill residents are no strangers to a ‘flyer war’, this warm, early March has brought out a flurry of pizza menu/coupon flyers. And while most people do like a deal, there comes a point where they stand out as waste- particularly when they litter sidewalks.

(Editor’s note: Admittedly, it may not be as effective as door flyers, but this website does offer an alternative in the form of advertising. We can do a direct trade – gift cards for an ad, or we can do more formalized bartering through Tradebank.com.)

Virginia Living Reviews L’Opossum

Virginia Living magazine gives a very positive review to L’Opossum.

It begins with:

The atmosphere is dark and moody, but the décor is light and fun. You’ll find anything from Star Wars collectible plates emblazoned with the Millennium Falcon to foot-tall golden statues of Michelangelo’s David lining the red walls—all items owner and chef David Shannon has collected over the years. “I wanted to capture the feeling of the restaurants I grew up with in the ’60s and ’70s,” says Shannon. Specifically, he wanted to evoke the contrived fanciness of a French restaurant of that era—“a French restaurant in the Cleveland airport in 1977,” he says. What he has accomplished with his Richmond restaurant, L’Opossum sur la Colline de l’Orégon, is transportive.
