VCU Takes Away Parking
VCU has closed ALL parking on the 00 block of S Pine (Just South of Main). This is a hardship to businesses on the Cary business corridor. It has been like this for too long. I don’t understand how the City allows indefinite closures like this at the expense of taxpaying citizens. They could easily move the construction fence over. Makes you wonder.
Wouldnt it be great if VCU and City worked together to help each other instead of them continually knifing us in the back?

Meanwhile, the Times Dispatch is reporting that local property tax assessments will stay fairly flat.
2 Serious Crimes To Report
Please inform your community of the crimes listed below. They are still under investigation and I will update you with further information as I receive it. Please ask anyone with any information on these crimes or any others to call the Police (nonemergency, 804 646 5100).
At approximately 4:00 am this morning a female reported that a black male entered her home in the 300 block of S. Laurel. Victim states that she was taken outside and raped in the alley. There was no weapon involved. Case is still under investigation and details are unclear at this time. I will update you as soon as I get any further information.
At approximately 8:30 last night 2 females reported that they were walking in the 100 block of S. Cherry when they were approached by 2 black females. One of the suspects displayed a black revolver and demanded money and cell phones. Suspects got $47 and a cell phone. No one was injured. No further details at this time.

Richmond Area Ridefinder has word on a great ride leaving out of Oregon Hill in a few hours:
The Mamma Zu ride begins at 9:30 A.M., Monday, January 19 from the intersection of Spring and Pine Streets in Richmond’s Oregon Hill neighborhood.Challenge. Ride 40 (or 30) miles along the James River with temperatures in the low thirties. Climb several short and some steep hills, and the two-mile Old Gun hill.
Reward. Scenic views of the James River and forest lined roads, some fast descents, and post ride lunch with cycling friends at Mamma Zu.

Belle Isle users asked not to litter while service bridge is closed
Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities would like for individuals who use Belle Isle to be careful not to litter and to carry their own trash off the island while the park’s service bridge is closed for repair.
The vehicular service bridge located on the south side of the island was closed for repair following a safety inspection on January 12 that revealed cracks in the welded connections, which compromise the safety of the bridge.
This bridge was built in the early 1990’s primarily to provide access to the island by park maintenance and emergency vehicles. This bridge is NOT the suspension bridge used by pedestrians on the north side of the island, nor the footbridge that crosses the railroad on the south side of the island, which both remain open.
Closure of the service bridge currently eliminates vehicular access to the island and hampers the park staff’s ability to remove garbage.
Repairs to the bridge are expected to take eight to ten weeks, during which time the bridge will remain closed.
My personal plea: Please don’t bring glass bottles to the riverfront.
