Greetings!

I am writing as the media contact for the RVA Environmental Film Festival, which is seeking submissions for its 2027 Film Contest. This year our contest has expanded to include environmental filmmakers from Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, DC and West Virginia. Films submitted to the contest should address environmental concerns relevant to Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region. Please help us to get the word out!

The RVA Environmental Film Contest (RVAEFC) is an important part of the annual RVAEFF, which is free and open to the public. We seek films focused on concerns and care for our local environment, especially as the adverse consequences of climate change become ever more evident. Films may illuminate individual and/or community activism, educate us about challenges and harms, and share solutions.

THe RVAEFF’s mission is to showcase films selected to bring awareness of environmental issues facing our city, region, and our planet. Due to the generosity of local non-profit organizations, businesses and our volunteers, the Festival remains free and open to the public.

The RVAEFF will screen the First & Second Prize Winners on February 21, as part of the festival’s opening weekend.

There are awards! The First-Place film receives $1500 + laurel logo. The Second-Place film is awarded $750 + laurel logo.

Deadline: November 30, 2026
Extended Deadline: December 31, 2026
Notification Date: January 24, 2027
Event Date: Opening February 20 – 21, 2027 at Studio Two Three, Richmond VA.Film screenings continue through March 6 at locations around the Richmond area.
