Paving will start THIS WEEK – Look for ‘NO PARKING’ signs

From Amy Robins, Liaison for Councilmember Stephanie A. Lynch:

OREGON HILL NEIGHBORS!!! READ THIS and share with your neighbors.
Please pay attention to the NO PARKING signs for paving. Paving will start THIS WEEK (May 5). Their goal is to go as fast as possible as weather permits.
This may mean will will not be able to park on your street for several days and have to walk a bit further for parking. Please remember this is a short term inconvenience for a long term benefit.
Please make sure you all talk with each other as you see each other walking dogs, to your car, etc throughout the neighborhood so everyone is aware. Some streets tend to have high tow rates during street sweeping.

Now Is The Time…

During its period of historic significance (circa 1906), there were 376 trees in Monroe Park. Monroe Park is Richmond’s oldest public municipal park, acquired in 1851.
In 2018, due to a botched and racially motivated “renovation”, over 40 healthy, mature trees were cut down, leaving less than 100 trees in the 7.5 acre park.
In Autumn of 2024, Richmond city council approved an ordinance removing the seats on the Parks and Rec Advisory Board of both EnRichmond Foundation and the Monroe Park Conservancy (who was responsible for the disastrous redux), deeming them nonfunctional entities.
Now is the time to plan for the reforestation of the park.
Sincerely,
Charles Woodson.

Trash/Recycling Pickup Tomorrow Morning

Tomorrow is a “Red Wednesday”, which means trash and recycling pickup.
Please go over what can be recycled.

NOTE: CVWMA (Central Virginia Waste Management Authority) has announced that all curbside recycling must now be INSIDE the CVWMA containers with lid closed. Items beside the container or on top of it will not be collected. In fact, incorrect setouts may not be collected at all. This is new as of July 1 for all our curbside recyclers, with the exception of townhomes/condos still using small bins. (And yes, this also applies to flattened cardboard boxes.)

Ideally, rolling recycling containers are stored and deployed in the back alleys along with trash cans. Please make sure you pick up containers after pickup tomorrow night. More CVWMA information can be found at this link:
https://cvwma.com/cvwma-locations/richmond/

In order to take your recycling to the next level, read this: 10 ways to improve your recycling.

In recycling news, besides tariff chaos, the city of Hoboken, New Jersey, has announced the arrival of its first fully electric waste collection truck, funded in part through an almost $700,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). This truck joins the city’s lineup of 30 electric or hybrid vehicles, including two shuttle buses delivered along with new waste collection truck.

The city says the new collection truck will replace an existing diesel hauler and will begin servicing Hoboken neighborhoods in the coming weeks.

In addition to lowering greenhouse gas emissions and reducing noise pollution, the electric vehicles are expected to improve overall air quality while offering a smoother, quieter experience for residents, according to the city of Hoboken.

Canal ‘Disappeared’

Despite decades of preservation effort, New Market Corporation has successfully done away with the historic canal with the new amphitheater.
Richmond City officials went right along with it, instead of protecting this portion of Richmond largest civic project ever.

Remember this statement- ““We’ll be working with our business and residential neighbors to make sure that we are a good partner and good neighbor,” she says. “For us to be successful, we need everyone around us to be happy with us, so it’s something that we are very aware of, and we’ll go through all of the proper procedures to make sure that we are putting together the best plan possible.”
from “RVA’s New Groove” article in Richmond Magazine.

Of course, we will all need to speak up for those that cannot..
