Tredegar Iron Works Historian To Speak On Tuesday

Well, last time this was scheduled, Slayer was playing the National, former President Bill Clinton paid a last minute visit to the Hippodrome, and there were tornado warnings, complete with VCU sirens. Let’s see what happens on Tuesday-

The Oregon Hill Home Improvement Council, (OHHIC) a neighborhood membership organization whose mission includes historical preservation, is presenting an author’s talk about historic Tredegar Iron Works on Tuesday, April 19th at 7 pm. Local historian Nathan Vernon Madison, a graduate of the University of Mary Washington (BA) and Virginia Commonwealth University (MA), will present and discuss his recently released book, Tredegar Iron Works. His account utilizes a wealth of primary sources and firsthand accounts to chronicle the full history of the Richmond industrial icon. The Oregon Hill neighborhood was built and occupied by many of the foundry’s workers and therefore has a special connection to this history. This author’s talk is co-hosted by St. Andrew’s Church and will take place in their chapel at 236 S. Laurel Street. After the presentation Mr. Madison will be available to sign books. This event is free and open to the public, however seating will be limited and RSVP’s are appreciated.

RVA Cleanup/VCU Paint The Town Green This Saturday

Randolph neighbors are looking for a few more volunteer hands this Saturday. We will be covering from Meadow to the western parts of Oregon Hill. In addition to the litter cleanup we will be working to finishing the storm drain marking we started last year.

We will meet at the Randolph a Community Center at 1415 Grayland from 9-12pm. If you can only come for an hour, we’ll take it! Thank you!

Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (VAHCC) hosts the annual Que Pasa Festival as a celebration and showcase of Virginia’s diverse Latino community and businesses. The festival will include food, drinks, music, and a variety of games and activities for people and families of all ages. VAHCC is looking for volunteers to help us make this a successful and memorable event. Volunteers will provide assistance in a variety of tasks, including setting up and breaking down, admissions, and beverage sales, and volunteer shifts are available throughout the day from 6:00am until 9:00pm. VCU-Community Meeting on the Gladding Residence Center Capital Project On April 5th

VCU invites its neighbors to a meeting on April 5 to discuss VCU’s current capital project, Gladding Residence Center, located at 711 W. Main St. This project is part of VCU’s Housing Master Plan and is a public-private partnership between VCU and American Campus Communities. An article on the project appeared in the RTD on February 29.

This will be VCU’s fifth meeting with community members since May 2015. Project designs have evolved, thanks in large part to the community’s feedback. Thank you for your continued participation.
