Paint The Town Green Fall 2013

I mentioned PTTG earlier, but more from a neighbor about this event WHICH HAPPENS SATURDAY:

I like that it is scheduled for “after” Halloween! I can’t participate this time but have really enjoyed it in the past.

It starts Saturday morning with free coffee/light breakfast about 8:30 in Monroe Park before breaking into different neighborhoods groups. Expect to see them about 9 ish in the community – for a couple of hours. Come on out and join them – at least come out and interact with them as they pass thru.

I’m not sure if they will be using Pleasants Park again as the trash drop off / city pick up point this time – but it seemed to work out well in the past.

I can only volunteer for a little while myself, but I hope there is a good mix of students and neighbors.

THIS Tuesday: Farewell to 2013 BHM; Hey There Renegade Market!

From email announcement:

A HUGE thank you
for a fantastic 2013 season at Byrd House Market, and to all our food producer/vendors for all the great work they do to bring you great food wherever you shop it.

In fact, VCU students let the vendors know their appreciation during National Food Day at the Market last week when they visited every one and gave them a Thank You card with a great graphic created from the words collected during a customer survey a few weeks earlier. College students have been swoopin’ in to take advantage of the $10 Student Box (a deal saving them anywhere from 20-30%) provided by participating vendors since first launched at Food Day 2012, but there’s been a real upsurge in their numbers this fall, so as manager, I want to thank them both – students and vendors for their mutual support.

As we head into the holiday season, great gift ideas abound at Byrd House Market… finely grown and crafted foods are always a welcome treat, as well as goodies for your pets and balms for body and soul. Fine goods at great prices! Not sure, ask me!

See you at Byrd House Market!

Halloween Parade Excitement Building

Richmond.com has a nice listing for the upcoming Halloween Parade:

All the Saints will host its 8th annual Halloween Parade. You can show up to watch this artsy parade or join in the parade yourself. Bring horns, drums, or your own band to march with. All the Saints is planning huge larger than life dragon demons, day of the dead groomsmen, huge Chelsea Manning and Eric Snowden puppets, the founding fathers, a 25 foot pirate ship and much more. To help make puppets for the parade, join All the Saints’ Lily Lamberta at LoveBomb (6 West 21st between Bainbridge and Hull) on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. Parade will held on Halloween,Thursday, Oct. 31. If you want to join in, meet at Monroe Park at 7 p.m. Otherwise watch the parade make its way through the streets of Oregon Hill.

Special thanks to St. Andrew’s for doing some fund-raising for the parade. I am sure Lily would appreciate more if anyone else would like to chip in.

National Food Day Thursday

On Thursday, October 24, National Food Day will be celebrated at the Byrd House farmlet beginning at 3:30 pm. National Food Day serves to promote safer, healthier diets; support sustainable and organic farms; reduce hunger; reform factory farms to protect the environment and farm animals; support fair working conditions for food and farm workers.

The event will feature games, a Pop-Up photography exhibition, and family-style dinner tables hosted by Slow Food RVA, Tricycle Gardens, Farmers Market @ St. Stephens Church, Renew Richmond, Faces of Hope, Shalom Farms with Greater Richmond Coalition for Healthy Children, Open High School, Sub Rosa Breads and William Byrd Community House.

Each organization will provide the framework for conversation for their table and be responsible for recording the issues, solutions, plans and actions discussed. The insights from all the groups will be compiled, distributed to all attendees and made available to the public. While the event is not open to the public, media is invited to attend and engage in conversations with each of the parties.

For more information about this Food Day event, please contact Ana Edwards, Manager, Byrd House Market, 804/517-4049, byrdhousemarket at gmail.com.

Byrd House Market Tuesday: Support For Halloween Parade

The Byrd House Market will be open Tuesday from 3:30 to 7:00 pm. Be sure to stop by the booth for St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and support the All Saints Theater Company 8th Annual Oregon Hill Halloween Parade.

On the second and fourth Tuesdays, St. Andrew’s has a table selling its preserves (Bread and Butter Pickles, Peach Marmalade, Fig Preserves and Marinara – all with 2/3 to 100% local ingredients from market vendors). Tuesday, October 22 is our last market of the regular season, and on that day will be donating 100% of our market proceeds to support The All Saint’s Theatre Company’s 8th Annual Halloween Parade through Oregon Hill. Come by our table, pick up some of our delicious preserves and support a new neighborhood tradition.
