On a related note, on Sunday a Laurel Street neighbor watched a guy with a package walk into an unlocked house across the street. He walked back out quickly and went back in the direction he came from toward Idlewood St. The owner of the home popped up and yelled after him “Did you need help with something” and he said he yelled back he got the wrong address but he kept moving. The owner then told us that he seemed startled by her dogs when he came in and she thinks thats why he left so quickly.
She was advised to report the incident to the police.
WTVR is reporting on muggings and arrest last night–
“The first incident took place on the 600 block of West Cary street. A student was approached by a suspect armed with a firearm who demanded property. The suspect fled with the property,” a VCU Police spokesperson said. “The second incident took place at Shafer and Franklin streets. Two students were approached by a suspect with a firearm who demanded property. One student was struck with the weapon and sustained minor injuries.”
The third incident was reported on the 900 block of Park Avenue.
“Two students were again approached by a suspect armed with a firearm who demanded property. Both students were assaulted and sustained minor injuries,” police said.
Richmond Police located the suspect along the 400 block of North Harrison Street and arrested him at about 4:22 a.m.
“The property taken by the suspect was recovered when the suspect was arrested,” police said. “VCU Police, working in concert with Richmond Police, are committed to the safety of our students, faculty and staff.”
A neighbor reported this morning:
Two guys, faces covered by hoods, heading down Laurel looking into car windows.
Another neighbor reported:
My partner forgot to lock the car. One got in but I scared him off. He’s in the gray hoodie. They been on Spring and Cherry . Police are looking for them.
Editorial comment: I guess now that students are back, criminals think we are easy pickings. Its up to neighbors to prove them wrong.
Police said the incident happened when the three men approached another adult male and robbed him at gunpoint.
The incident happened in the 500 block of South Laurel Street sometime between 7:30 and 7:40 p.m.
Police said the men stole several personal items from the man before running away.
No injuries occurred during the robbery.
From WTVR’s developing story:
VCU Police said a fight broke out at a party at home “that culminated in gunfire” just after 12:30 a.m.
Richmond police said officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to an area hospital with injures that were described as not life-threatening.
Police are searching for a suspect described as a black male about 5 feet 11 inches tall with dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.
As a result of the incident, officials said Richmond and VCU Police are stepping up patrols.
