Great prices on knitting books, knitting patterns, knitting magazines and MORE!

The Friends of the Richmond Public Library have received a generous donation of knitting books and patterns from THE KNITTING BASKET (Thanks, Ute!!).

In conjunction with the Library’s Learn to Knit class for young people next Saturday, the Friends are hosting a special Knitting-Themed Book Sale featuring merchandise from The Knitting Basket, as well as a selection of ‘fiber arts’ books (needlework, sewing, embroidery, etc.) culled from the Friends’ Book Sale collection.

KNITTING SALE EXTRAVAGANZA DETAILS:
Who: Open to all!
When: Saturday, February 23, 2013, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Where: Richmond Public Library Main Branch, 101 E. Franklin Street.
Prices: Hardbacks are $2. Paperbacks and patterns are 50 cents.

Amy Nichols-Belo will talk about her recent trip to Thailand and Cambodia at this Saturday’s Vicarious Travelers Series at the Richmond Public Library downtown on Franklin St between 1st and 2nd streets. It’s a free event and refreshments will be provided. Hope to see you there: Saturday, February 9, at 3:00PM.

Also, the Richmond Hostel Committee will be meeting at Storefront for Community Design at 205 E Broad Street next Tuesday at 7PM.

The monthly Richmond Hostel Committee meeting for January is cancelled.

But, don’t miss this month’s Vicarious Travelers Series at the main branch of the Richmond Public Library at 101 E. Franklin St.
This Saturday, January 5, at 3:00PM, Emily Parlove will present “The Frugal Explorer’s Dream Trip to Australia.” Gerry Leonard ‘s presentation “More Bang for Your Euro” will be on Saturday, January 19 at 3:00PM at the library.

Our next meeting will be February 12.

Looking for Library Thief Suspect

Library Theft Suspect Sought

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the man in the attached surveillance photos in connection with a theft at a city library.

Between 10 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. on Dec. 5, an unknown person stole a cashbox from the city’s main library at 101 E. Franklin St. Detectives believe the man seen in these surveillance images may have hidden in the library when it closed the previous night and then stole the cashbox the next morning when the library opened.

Anyone with any information about this man’s identity or this crime is asked to call Fourth Precinct Detective John Walker at (804) 646-3184 or Crime Stoppers by calling 780-1000. Citizens can also text Crime Stoppers anonymously by texting 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip.

Negro Leagues Baseball Players To Appear At Main Public Library

Friday, August 10th at 4:30 p.m., former baseball players from the Negro Leagues will be at the Main Library to talk about their experience in the league and Civil Rights struggle in the 1950s and 1960s. Surviving members who will participate in an interview questionnaire are Henry Mason, Joe Durham, Mamie Johnson-Goodman, and Pedro Sierra. This program is “FREE” and is open to the public.
