Parks Named By The Neighborhood For Abolitionists In 2003
With local parks coming under more development pressure, it’s good to remind folks that the neighborhood decided to name the Parsons Linear Park as well as Pleasants Park in 2003 in honor of the abolitionists.

Park Improvements
Over the last few weeks, there’s been a lot of improvements made to local park amenities.
For one, old brush has been cleared and new plantings put in around the ramp up to the Belle Island pedestrian bridge.
For another, portions of the trail down to the river and the North Bank Trail have recently been paved.
The new paved path, as connected to the ramp coming down from the Overlook, makes the area much more accessible for persons with disabilities.
The work is welcome (as long as previous suggestions of turning the area into a parking lot are forever rejected). Hopefully it will continue and the Kanawha Canal can soon be re-watered for recreational use.
