Tonight- Zaireeka at Triple Crossing

Though Triple Crossing is not in Oregon Hill, it is our closest commercial brewery within walking distance…and tonight at 6 pm there-

From the FaceBook event page:

Join us for a special night with an experiment combining all 4 LP’s played simultaneously on 4 turntables.

Zaireeka is the eighth studio album by the alternative rock band The Flaming Lips. Released on October 28, 1997, the experimental rock album consists of four Compact Discs. Each of its eight songs consists of four stereo tracks, one from each CD. The album was designed so that when played simultaneously on four separate audio systems, the four CDs would produce a harmonic or juxtaposed sound. The discs can also be played in different combinations, omitting one, two or three discs. The album’s title is a portmanteau of two words: Zaire, chosen as a symbol of anarchy after Wayne Coyne heard a radio news story about the political instability of the African nation, and eureka (literally: “I have found it”), an expression of joyous discovery.

Dominion RiverRock This Weekend Will Come With Protests and Rain

Picture1

Dominion RiverRock Festival is scheduled for this weekend. The local corporate media trumpets this as the nation’s premier outdoor sports and music festival.

But the Virginia Sierra Club, Chesapeake Climate Action Network, and other activists are planning to protest Dominion Power at the event on Saturday evening. They claim that “Dominion is sponsoring events like Riverrock at the same time it is using its political clout to pollute Virginians’ rivers, drinking water, and climate, and rig our democracy against clean energy solutions.”

At the same time, local weather forecasters are talking about a 90% chance of rain on Saturday.

PBR’s “The House on Oregon Hill”

From Verbicide magazine:

People’s Blues of Richmond is a heavy-touring, blues-psych power trio from Richmond, Virginia. In the past two years, they’ve signed with Madison House Booking, recorded their third full-length studio album, and released a seven-inch single with sought-after producer Mark Neill (Black Keys, The Hives, J. Roddy Walston & the Business).

The band’s new album, Quit or Die (out June 10, 2016), was recorded in Richmond by Ricky Olson at The Ward. Premiering today at VerbicideMagazine.com is a track from that album entitled “The House on Oregon Hill,” which you can stream below.

Museum Expansion At Tredegar

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports planned construction of a $37 million, 28,500-square-foot building that is expected to begin early next year. American Civil War Museum Foundation president Waite Rawls says the new building will offer expanded gallery spaces, an experience theater and improved storage and preservation areas for the museum’s collections of Civil War artifacts. It should open around summer 2018.
