Oregon Hill had another fantastic month with only one reported crime in all of
November (only 2 crimes for the 4th Quarter). It was a theft from a car so please
always make sure the passenger compartment of your car is EMPTY.
We are still experiencing a problem with loud parties. We have put some overtime
Officers out there but they were working on Fridays and it seems that the problem
lately has been Saturdays. Midnight Shift Officers will be taking a more aggressive
approach to the partying. Officer Claude Picard has taken a pro-active approach to
the problem and has been working with ABC Agents as well as VCU
Administration. They will continue to work with us until we can fix the problem.

St. Andrew’s Church in Oregon Hill will host the annual parish Santa Breakfast for the children of Oregon Hill, St. Andrew’s School and surrounding communities, Dec. 6, from 8-11 a.m. in the school’s Baldwin Hall. Santa Claus will make an appearance and Mrs. Claus will be on hand to take pictures while children feast on pancakes and make their requests known. “It’s true Santa Claus is not a direct part of church theology, but it bears remembering that the great children’s holiday story, ‘The Night Before Christmas,’ was written by Clement Moore, a professor at General Theological Seminary in New York and that our Santa Claus is connected, theologically, to St. Nicholas, who was Bishop of Myra, and who sold everything he owned to dedicated his life and wealth to helping others,” says the Rev. Abbott Bailey, St. Andrew’s rector. St. Nicholas died on Dec. 6 in 343 AD, and the day is marked on the church calendar as St. Nicholas Day. St. Andrew’s has hosted the

Right before the Thanksgiving holiday, the Oregon Hill Neighborhood Association held a meeting. Although I was hoping for an election, it looks like I am still King. We did receive a strong presentation from the City’s Procurement Services concerning new plans for adjustments to the Landmark Theater (formerly the Mosque). A new loading dock ramp configuration is the first step.
Old news at this point, but congratulations to the nuptials: The Honorable Jennifer McClellan and David Mills were married on Nov. 15.
It should not come as any surprise that one of the major goals of Richmond planners is to get VCU students out of their cars in order to alleviate congestion, pollution, and space being wasted on parking. One of the ways to accomplish this is by offering alternative transportation.
A new project called howirichmond deals with alternative transportation in Richmond (possibly other cities in the future). This group will be at Ellwood Thompson’s this weekend on Saturday and Sunday during business hours of 7am – 10pm both days with a table to pass out information they have collected from other community partners about forms of alternative transportation.
Presently they are concentrating on the development of their website and their event this weekend, but going into next year they hope to work with local partners in the community to benefit increased alternative transportation in the city.
