Fence Vandalized On Idlewood
There have been a few complaints about some incidents this past weekend, this being one of them:
This week, there is an article in the VCU Commonwealth Times, where VCU Police Chief Venuti is quoted,
“A lot of times, people exiting a party will draw out attention. Even if you are registered, if people are leaving, (ed. note: emphasis added by me) smashing things, fighting or peeing all over the place, we come into the picture,” Venuti said.
The Persistence of Poe At Main Library
This coming First Friday, Nov. 2, the Richmond Main Library will feature a screening of the mini-documentary “The Persistence of Poe”, which is about “Edgar Allan Poe’s lesser-known life in and cultural impact upon the old and mysterious Richmond, Virginia”. I am not clear about what time that will happen, 7 or 8 pm , or maybe both.

Trash/Recycling Pickup Tomorrow
This Wednesday is a red Wednesday, which means trash and recycling pickup. Please make sure you pick up containers after pickup tomorrow night. They do not belong on the sidewalk after tomorrow night (Let’s keep sidewalks clear for trick-or-treaters and the Halloween Parade).
Don’t forget about VCU’s Paint The Town Green on Saturday. Paint the Town Green is “a collaborative neighborhood clean-up between the VCU Monroe Park campus and its surrounding neighborhoods, including The Fan, Jackson Ward, Carver, Mosby Court, Randolph and Oregon Hill.” Hope to have more details on that soon.

Tredegar Holds Seance This Halloween

Spirit rapping, ghostly instruments, and other attempts at communion with the dead were once common occurrences in American parlors.
People from every social strata attended séances where mediums purported to be in contact with departed spirits. During the Civil War thousands desperate to contact fallen loved ones enlisted the aid of a medium. What would they have experienced at one of these sittings?
Find out at Historic Tredegar when we present a historically accurate séance inspired by the Spiritualist movement.
Join us October 28th – November 1st for this mysterious evening’s entertainment. Our story centers on Mr. and Mrs. Nelson as they seek to communicate to their son who lost his life during the Civil War.

for a fantastic 2013 season at Byrd House Market, and to all our food producer/vendors for all the great work they do to bring you great food wherever you shop it.In fact, VCU students let the vendors know their appreciation during National Food Day at the Market last week when they visited every one and gave them a Thank You card with a great graphic created from the words collected during a customer survey a few weeks earlier. College students have been swoopin’ in to take advantage of the $10 Student Box (a deal saving them anywhere from 20-30%) provided by participating vendors since first launched at Food Day 2012, but there’s been a real upsurge in their numbers this fall, so as manager, I want to thank them both – students and vendors for their mutual support.
As we head into the holiday season, great gift ideas abound at Byrd House Market… finely grown and crafted foods are always a welcome treat, as well as goodies for your pets and balms for body and soul. Fine goods at great prices! Not sure, ask me!

Launch of the Renegades
Starting Tuesday, November 5th, the BHM Renegade Season begins and runs through April 2014. Our Renegade anchors, The Byrd Farm and Faith Farm Foods, will be joined for the next couple of months by Agriberry, Heath Farm, Phal’s Noodles, Deer Run, Epic Gardens, Tomten Farm, and a few more, so don’t take the market off your schedule! Hours: Tuesdays from 3pm to 6pm (or sunset).
