I was told several years ago by Todd that the trees had been approved and were going to be replaced….anyone know what ever happened there? I would much rather have a nice tree than the nasty stench trees my neighbor has, some sort of early blooms that smell like whoooohaaa!!!
The city no longer has a budget per se for planting trees. There is an “adopt a tree” program with citizen subsidy or a Council person may appropriate funds for trees in his/her district. The City does have a budget for removing trees. I urge you to get involved if you would like to see things improve either through the Parks Dept tree steward program or the Friends of Urban Forestry. Also let your Council person know if you want trees replaced. Until better times for street trees arrive, lets look after the ones we still have.
It might make sense to wait on street trees around Open High as it is due for major remodeling. But yeah, we need more street trees in general.
Sorry, I misspoke regarding the city not funding street tree plantings. One vendor I spoke with estimates he has put in approximately $150,000 worth this season. If you want to see the City plant trees in our neighborhood, contact your City Councilman Martin Jewell.
