A ferocious thunderstorm took down a large branch on the 600 block of South Laurel Street. It also brought down some wires and some neighbors lost power.

5th District Town Hall Meeting On Thursday
Councilmember Stephanie Lynch is hosting an IN PERSON meeting at the Byrd Park Round House.
The meeting agenda includes many representatives of city departments who can answer citizens’ questions.

American Civil War Museum at Tredegar Opens New Robins Theater This Friday
For the history buffs…and there are a lot of them in this neighborhood!..
The American Civil War Museum has announced the June 17 premiere of the short film, “A People’s Contest: America’s Civil War & Emancipation”, at it’s Historic Tredegar site in it’s new, state-of-the-art, Robins Theater.

Trash/Recycling (Might Be) Tomorrow
This Wednesday is a “Red Wednesday”, which hopefully means trash and recycling pickup. I say hopefully, because the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority has struggled to maintain its schedule due to a shortage of workers and has missed some pickups recently and had to reschedule. That said, as neighbors, we should do our best to help.
One tool that might help ameliorate the situation if pickup does not come is this online form:

Please go over what can be recycled. Ideally, rolling recycling containers are stored and deployed in the back alleys along with trash cans. Please make sure you pick up containers after pickup tomorrow night.

In recycling news, new battery recycling technology is coming- Aqua Metals Inc., a metals recycling company based in McCarran, Nevada, has announced it is deploying its AquaRefining technology in a lithium-ion battery recycling pilot at its Innovation Center in Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center that will begin operations later this year.
Lightning Struck Tree On Pine
A recent storm resulted in a big branch down on the 500 block of S. Pine Street. It also left a black mark on the tree where lightning had struck.
Beware of more storm tomorrow.
Parks Named By The Neighborhood For Abolitionists In 2003
With local parks coming under more development pressure, it’s good to remind folks that the neighborhood decided to name the Parsons Linear Park as well as Pleasants Park in 2003 in honor of the abolitionists.
