Again, from the start of Richmond300, the neighborhood has been concerned because code usually reflects land us decisions.
Before approving the Richmond 300 master plan, the Richmond City Council was assured by the Stoney administration that their voice in amending the master plan would be respected.
The question remains…Is this setting up the neighborhood for success (to use previous OHNA Preisdent Todd Woodson’s wording) or failure?
Tomorrow is a “Red Wednesday”, which means trash and recycling pickup.
Please go over what can be recycled.
NOTE: CVWMA (Central Virginia Waste Management Authority) has announced that all curbside recycling must now be INSIDE the CVWMA containers with lid closed. Items beside the container or on top of it will not be collected. In fact, incorrect setouts may not be collected at all. This is new as of July 1 for all our curbside recyclers, with the exception of townhomes/condos still using small bins. (And yes, this also applies to flattened cardboard boxes.)
Ideally, rolling recycling containers are stored and deployed in the back alleys along with trash cans. Please make sure you pick up containers after pickup tomorrow night.
If it seems like pickup did not happen, use this online form:

In recycling news, what is Belington, West Virginia’s newest claim to fame? It’s now the new home for Recycle Balls.
The company recycles three million tennis balls each year, and given that a tennis ball takes 400 years to decompose in a landfill, it might be as the company’s tagline says: “Yellow is the new green.”

Award-winning China Street restaurant L’Opossum is now 10 years old!
Congratulations to David Shannon and crew!

Laurel Street neighbor Charles Pool reports:
Hollywood lost one of its oldest trees this week. I counted around 225 growth rings. It was next to the original Harvie tombs, and it certainly would have been growing when Jaquelin Harvie was buried in 1856.

In recycling news: Waste360.com has a good overview of recycled materials market:
The Good, the Bad and the Meh: Midsummer Recycling Markets
A bit more than halfway through the year, MRF recycling markets are blowing hot, cold, and indifferent. On the hot side are old corrugated containers (OCC), residential mixed paper (RMP), PET bottles, and aluminum cans. Steel cans and colored HDPE bottles are cold. Natural HDPE bottles and polypropylene (PP) packaging are kind of meh. At least prices aren’t as volatile as the summer of 2021 when most recyclables set record highs only to watch them disappear.
