Dr. Jane Goodall Speaking At The Landmark Theater Tonight
The last speaker for the 2013 season of the Richmond Forum is a good one.
In July 1960, at the age of 26, Jane Goodall traveled from England to what is today Tanzania and bravely entered the little-known world of wild chimpanzees. In the more than 50 years since, she has become an international icon, a United Nations Messenger of Peace, and a tireless advocate for environmental stewardship. Dr. Goodall will take us into the world of the Gombe chimpanzees, discuss the current threats facing the planet, and share her reasons for hope in these complex times.
Sierra Club Does Electric Slide Protest On Sunday
In case you are wondering why there are people dancing at Kanawha Plaza on a Sunday afternoon,
From the Virginia Sierra Club website:
WHEN: Sun., April 14 at 1 – 3 PM
WHERE: Kanawha Plaza, 7th & Canal Streets
Join us in sending a message to Dominion and the State Corporation Commission saying “No more dirty gas plants; it’s time to electric slide toward clean energy in VA!”
Dominion has proposed building another dirty fossil fuel plant, a fracked-fueled gas power plant in Brunswick County, while Virginia continues to slide behind in clean energy and climate protection.
In April the VA State Corporation Commission, our state’s energy regulators, will decide if Dominion can build this unnecessary gas plant, or instead require them to invest in safer, more reliable clean energy sources like wind, solar and energy efficiency first.
From The Plan…
…, the Richmond Connects transportation draft plan that is-
Looks like the Idlewood roundabout proposal made the Safety Project draft map. Also notice the 2nd Street Connector marked in blue as a new street.
for the next map, use this legend-
Of course, there’s a lot more to the Richmond Connects plan (buses, trains, etc.) and there is still time to submit comments.
(I will not relate all the comments I made, except that I did suggest mass transit options for our riverfront parks as a solution to parking/traffic nightmares.)
Monument 10K Saturday – Lots of Road Closings in the Area
From Richmond Police:
The Richmond Police Department asks motorists to be mindful of runners, street closings and parking restrictions for the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K this Saturday. The events begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, with the Virginia 529 Kids Run. The first wave of the 10K steps off 8:30 a.m. near Broad and Harrison streets. The 10K’s finish line is on Franklin Street next to Monroe Park.
Logistics of the 10K will require numerous street closings and traffic pattern changes throughout the city beginning with parking restrictions starting at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 12. Restrictions and closures will continue until 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.
Richmond Police reminds all 10K event participants and attendees to take advantage of parking in the decks near the start and finish lines and to not leave any items that may tempt would-be thieves in plain view in your vehicle, regardless of where you park.

New Restaurant Dinamo
From Fan of the Fan:
Dinamo reportedly opened its doors yesterday. The new restaurant–allegedly from partners Ed Vasaio and Brad Wein (Mama Zu’s/Edo’s Squid)–is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, according to a very busy waitress during this afternoon’s lunchtime rush.
No word yet on firm hours of operation, but there should be more information in a couple of days.
Dinamo is located at 821 W. Cary Street.
