Reported Snakebite Leads to Search
If you were like me and wondering what the helicopter was all about last night- here’s your answer- someone called 911 about a snakebite- and then could not be found.
Here is what the City’s emergency incident website showed last night:
412 S CHERRY ST RICH / CrossStreet: SPRING ST- FIRE, WATER RESCUE (Special Assignment) -On Scene 12:07 AM -47 YOA MALE C/B…JUMPED IN THE WATER…ADVISE HE IS NOW NUMB FROM THE BACK DOWN
Here is what WTVR reported this morning:
RICHMOND, VA (WTVR) – Richmond Emergency Crews Spent the majority of Sunday night into Monday morning searching for a man by the side of the James River.
Police called in emergency crews around 11 p.m. Sunday night.
CBS 6 has learned that the man called 911 saying he had been bitten by a snake in the woods near Hollywood Cemetery and the James River.
Multiple ground crews and a helicopter could be seen searching for the man. The search lasted for three and a half hours, and stretched from the Mayo Bridge all the way up to the Nickel Bridge.
No one was ever found. Crews called of the search at 3:23 Monday morning.

Location: 324 S. Pine St.
Store vibe: Small Oregon Hill spot, 400 square feet of hardcore punk with kitsch delights such as Ramones Russian dolls and a Descendents’ “Milo” bobble head.
Styles: Hardcore, punk and metal with some old-school stuff and an excellent local selection.
History: Opened in September 2008 by the husband-and-wife team of Brandon and Lauren Ferrell. A former drummer with Municipal Waste, Brandon saw the potential in filling a niche for the young punks and metal fans around Richmond, particularly in the Oregon Hill neighborhood. The couple also runs its own label, No Way Records.

SynerGeo Building/Steinmann Storefront Sold
I erroneously reported it as sold once before, but I just heard from a reliable source that the SynerGeo building at the corner of Albemarle and S. Laurel has in fact sold. SynerGeo staff is selling some of the office furniture right now (call 648-2887 during the daytime ASAP) as they move into the SynerGeo office into Pine Street Baptist Church.
Many Oregon Hill residents are hoping that the new owner will put glass back into the storefront and return the property to its original purpose as a small business.
Drive-Thru Book Drive At Main Library

The Friends of the Richmond Public Library are holding another Drive-Thru Book Drive at the Main Library on Saturday, May 21st from 10 am to 2 pm. Bring your unwanted, gently loved books, DVDs, and CDs (no text books or magazines, please) to help raise money for library services and programs. Your donation is tax-deductible and the drive is conveniently scheduled for any spring cleaning you might need to do! You won’t even have to get out of your car. Just drive by the library’s rear loading dock, which is accesible from 1st Street or from Main Street behind the Library.
