Dominion Riverrock Street Closures

The nation’s premier outdoor annual sports and music festival, Dominion Riverrock, will take place tomorrow, May 18 through Sunday, May 20. The event, hosted by Richmond Sport Backers, is expected to bring over 3,500 participants to Browns Island during the weekend.

The following streets will be CLOSED for the event

· Brown’s Island Way and 2nd Street Connector between Tredegar and South 2nd Streets;

· South 5th Street between Bragg and Tredegar Streets;

· Tredegar Street between the Dominion Resource Entrance and South 7th Street.

Friday, May 18th, road closures will go into effect at 2 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, road closures will go into effect at 10 a.m. Streets will re-open each day once the event is over. Please check the Dominion Riverrock website for more information about the event.

Today: The Women of Hollywood Cemetery Tour

From the Valentine Museum website:

Explore the role that women’s groups played in Hollywood Cemetery’s history from the Civil War to the present. Visit grave sites of women who were educators, authors, preservationists, suffragists and humanitarians.

Tour Notes

Advanced tickets are strongly encouraged. Space is limited.
Valentine walking tours are typically between 1-2 miles in length. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water.
Accessibility- People of all abilities are encouraged to join us for tours. If you have accessibility challenges or need accommodation, please let us know in advance.
Tours are held rain or shine. However, in extreme weather a tour may be cancelled. Call 804-649-0711 x 301 to verify the tour will take place.
Admission includes a $5 donation to the Friends of Hollywood Cemetery for ongoing restoration. Tours are made possible through a generous partnership with Hollywood Cemetery.

Star Wars Day Adaption Event At RACC This Friday

This coming Friday (May the 4th, Star Wars Day), members of the 501st will be teaming up with Richmond Animal Care and Control for a Star Wars themed adoption special.
Adoption fees will be lowered from $100 to $4. If you or anybody you know is considering adopting a new best friend, now is a good time. Should have 5 or 6 costumed members of the 501st at the event (Chewbacca and Lord Vader will be making an appearance).

“Little Soldier Saturday” At The Va. War Memorial

The Virginia War Memorial is holding an event Saturday called “Little Soldier Saturday”. It is aimed at children aged 3 to 8.

Spark your child’s love of history at our “Little Soldier Saturday.” This FREE program is tailored to meet the needs of young learners, encourage an appreciation of the past, and inspire creativity. Activities feature songs, stories, crafts, and movement, based around a theme or historic time period.

Parents/caregivers must remain with children at all times.

School Walk Out and March Planned For Friday; Could Impact Traffic/Parking

Another anti-gun violence school walkout is planned for Friday, and this one will include a rally at the Virginia State Capitol.

The protest will begin at 10 a.m. with a school walkout to honor the Columbine victims. Then starting at noon a march will take place from Brown’s Island to the Capitol.

Police are expecting a crowd of about 10,000 people to participate, and are asking people who are normally in that area during the day to be patient and plan ahead due to the rally.
