Trash/Recycling Pickup Tomorrow

This Wednesday is a red Wednesday, which means trash and recycling pickup. Keep in mind, it may storm later tonight.

Ideally, rolling recycling containers are stored and deployed in the back alleys along with trash cans. Please make sure you pick up containers after pickup tomorrow night.

If you have not done so already, don’t forget to sign up for your Recycling Perks.

In order to take your recycling to the next level, read this: 10 ways to improve your recycling.

A couple of additional notes:
Locally, with the school year drawing to a close, it is time for student renters and others who are moving to consider how to deal with all of their stuff. With the City budget strained, it is important that stuff is recycled and disposed of properly, without just dumping it on the sidewalk, street, and alley. I am happy to post neighborhood yard sale notices on this site. I know there is one multi-household one coming up on May 7 on 600 block of S. Laurel Street. There are also certainly a number of local thrift stores and charities that are willing to receive furniture donations. Don’t forget the 19th Annual Big Yard Sale at the University of Richmond on May 14th.

In terms of Oregon Hill neighborhood cleanups, RVA CleanSweep has a Randolph/Oregon Hill litter pickup scheduled for May 21. Meetup link: http://www.meetup.com/RVA-Clean-Sweep/events/228648874/
There is also a alley cleanup planned for early June.

“Byrd House Market” Reborn as
“Birdhouse Farmers Market” at New Location!

Richmond, VA – Birdhouse Farmers Market will open for business May 3rd, 2016 only a few blocks from its old location in a beautiful urban park setting! After the closing of William Byrd Community House, the historic Oregon Hill social services agency which hosted “Byrd House Market”, a group of dedicated farmer/vendors and food system and community advocates banded together to make sure the market continued in its 10th year. It was as important to remain convenient to our loyal customers as it was exciting to anticipate extending access to fresh, healthy foods to new customers. Our new home in Randolph fits that bill. We’ll have ensure we could offer SNAP EBT to new customers. In addition to the face painting, food demos, and kids’ activities in a park setting, this year will feature a weekly Pop-Up Library by the Richmond Public Library.

Farmer/vendor-led, BFM will continue to be healthy food focused, with a diverse group of vendors such as Amy’s Organic Garden, Sub Rosa Bakery, Faith Farm, Ninja Kombucha, and more. The new location offers some great additions such as expanded on and off street parking, easy access to GRTC (Bus #10) and I-195/Downtown Expressway, and the complementary amenities of Petronius Jones Park (playground, pool, vita path, and abundant green spaces).

Opening Day: May 3, 2016!
Market Days: Tuesdays, 3:00 – 6:30 pm from
May 3 through November 22, 2016
Location: Behind Randolph Community Center swimming pool
on Grayland Ave.
