Request for Bike Share Station

A neighbor is reiterating his request that the Oregon Hill Neighborhood Association request a bike share station. According to the neighbor, there are 20 stations going in around the City but Oregon Hill is being left out, even though it has 11% of the population of the service area. He further suggests a street parking space next to Pleasants Park (corner of Albemarle and S. Laurel).

Oregon Hill Yard Sale Day Saturday

Looks like a bunch of different Oregon Hill households will be doing yard sales this coming Saturday, May 7.

So far there will be yard sales on the 400 block and 600 block of S. Laurel as well as the 500 and 600 block of S. Pine. Others are welcome to join in.

One other note: This is a way for student renters to get rid of their belongings in an orderly fashion and make a little money. The following Saturday, May 14, is the Big Yard Sale at the University of Richmond.

Transit Meetings Tonight and Tomorrow

While Oregon Hill lost the GRTC route that used to go down S. Laurel Street years ago, we have lots of buses stopping on Belvidere Street.

As for the future of local mass transit, I have tried to chime in with some thoughts in the past, now here’s some more chances for more residents to give theirs. From Partnership for Smarter Growth announcement:

Don’t forget, tonight and tomorrow afternoon are the first round of Richmond Transit Network Plan meetings. This will be our plan for the next 20 years.
We’ll be talking about important questions, like where do we need service, how to improve access to jobs, how to link to revitalization of neighborhoods, do you want more frequency and reliability even if it means a slightly longer walk to a stop?
Make sure your voice is heard!
Tuesday, May 3, 6-8 p.m.

Wednesday, May 4, 12-2 p.m.

Trash/Recycling Pickup Tomorrow

This Wednesday is a red Wednesday, which means trash and recycling pickup. Keep in mind, it may storm later tonight.

Ideally, rolling recycling containers are stored and deployed in the back alleys along with trash cans. Please make sure you pick up containers after pickup tomorrow night.

If you have not done so already, don’t forget to sign up for your Recycling Perks.

In order to take your recycling to the next level, read this: 10 ways to improve your recycling.

A couple of additional notes:
Locally, with the school year drawing to a close, it is time for student renters and others who are moving to consider how to deal with all of their stuff. With the City budget strained, it is important that stuff is recycled and disposed of properly, without just dumping it on the sidewalk, street, and alley. I am happy to post neighborhood yard sale notices on this site. I know there is one multi-household one coming up on May 7 on 600 block of S. Laurel Street. There are also certainly a number of local thrift stores and charities that are willing to receive furniture donations. Don’t forget the 19th Annual Big Yard Sale at the University of Richmond on May 14th.

In terms of Oregon Hill neighborhood cleanups, RVA CleanSweep has a Randolph/Oregon Hill litter pickup scheduled for May 21. Meetup link: http://www.meetup.com/RVA-Clean-Sweep/events/228648874/
There is also a alley cleanup planned for early June.
