A couple of street/traffic/parking concerns:

A hole opened up in the 600 block of S. Laurel St. where there had been water utility repairs.


It has been reported to the City and there is a large traffic barrel sitting over it right now.

Also, the City made an announcement concerning upcoming work. From Monday, June 17 to Tuesday, October 29 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., around the intersection of Cumberland Avenue and Laurel Street,
contractors will be installing signal poles, traffic signal controllers, countdown pedestrian signal heads, push buttons and other traffic signal equipment. Some lanes of travel will be temporarily closed during this process.

In addition, street cleaning will be taking place next week. Watch for the signs or risk getting towed!

Lane Closure – Cary Street and Laurel Street Intersection

WHERE: In the 5th Voter District
• The intersection of Cary Street and Laurel Street
BACKGROUND: As a part of the HSIP Pedestrian Improvement at Signalized Intersection project, the contractor will be repairing sections of the concrete sidewalk and placing pavement markings in the intersection listed above. The curb travel lane, sidewalk and median lane may be temporarily closed during this process.

Shooting Injures Two

From WRIC television news report:

Richmond police responded to a reported shooting on the 200 block of South Laurel Street, three blocks from Monroe Park, just after 8 pm.

According to a Richmond police officer, two young men were hit by an unknown assailant who fired from a vehicle, “A car drove by, cracked off a couple of rounds.”

According to other reports, the drive-by shooting was related to an altercation at a near by college student party. Two young men suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Oregon Hill residents are greatly disturbed and upset by this incident.
