Oregon Hill Neighborhood Association Meets Tomorrow Night

Dear Neighbors

We will meet Tuesday night at 7PM at 236 S Laurel st. in the St Andrews parish building. Our landmarks are gone but we are still very mobilized to add protections for us and other city neighborhoods in the future. We also have other very interesting news. Please join us! Cat lovers- I will be giving away fresh catnip for your babies. Here is this meeting’s agenda:

Good morning neighbors!

Here is the agenda for our first OHNA meeting of 2018 which will be held tomorrow, Tuesday night 1/23/2018 at 7 PM at the ST Andrews Parish House next to the church on S Laurel. The times are most certainly not set in stone but I want to keep things moving to make the most of your valuable time. Lots of important people to meet and things to discuss so please come if you can and tell/bring a neighbor. ALL residents are welcome!

Saturday Happenings

Santa Breakfast this Saturday at St. Andrew’s School hosted by St. Andrew’s Church. Pancake and sausage breakfast, pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and Christmas shop. Breakfast is $3/person; $10 for immediate family. 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Come on over!

Keep in mind that the Dominion Energy Christmas Parade is happening and Broad Street will be closed.

Also, Water is Life Rally and Concert, in protest against the proposed Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley fracked gas pipelines, is being held at the State Capital and then the National Theater. A state wide coalition of over 30 environmental organizations are collaborating to pull this event together.

All Souls’ Labyrinth Walk Tonight

Tonight — On Thursday evening, November 2, St. Andrew’s will host an All Souls’ Labyrinth Walk in Pleasants Park. Please feel free to stop by any time between 5:30 pm and 7 pm. It is an invitation to walk in quiet remembrance of and thanksgiving for the ancestors who have gone before us to light the way.

Walking a labyrinth is one of the oldest contemplative practices for prayer and pilgrimage found in faith traditions around the world. Labyrinths may have been in existence as early as 3,500 to 4,500 BCE.

The labyrinth will be set up from 5:30 to 7 for those who would like to walk it, and we will have hot chocolate, sweet tea, and cookies for those who join us.

Good evening

OHNA (Oregon Hill Neighborhood Association ed.) will be holding its monthly meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, October 23rd, at 7 pm at St. Andrew’s Parish House.

One of the neighbors is attempting to revive the OHNA pre-meeting potluck. If you wish to participate, email me. I will be opening the door to the Parish House at 6:30 pm for the potluck.

I’ve had some interest from political candidates about attending, but no solid confirmations.

Featuring the fine art and photography of St. Andrew’s parishioners and artists from the Oregon Hill neighborhood. Join us for the opening reception Friday, October 20th from 6:00-8:00 pm. The art will be available for viewing Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00-4:00 pm from October 21-November 12. Free. Donations accepted with gratitude. No confirmed speakers yet, but I’ve been asked to add the following items to the agenda: STOP signs, Code enforcement for absentee landlords, Monroe Park Checkers House Plaza, a possible tool bank for the neighborhood.
