Hollywood Cemetery Stars
Richmond.com recently featured an article about Hollywood Cemetery that took a different approach from the usual “look at how many Presidents are buried here”-the author considers her favorite ‘stars’.
For example her “No. 3” is Mary Wingfield Scott:
Richmonders may not have been able to brag about the revitalization of Church Hill, because it almost got demolished. Preservationist Mary Wingfield Scott was instrumental in saving this neighborhood, as well as Oregon Hill and Linden Row. Thankfully, Richmond is known for its historic beauty, not an excess of Wal-Marts and giant parking lots.

As they left the Blue Lotus Collective crew “Nick and Friends” serenaded shoppers til market’s end. Pretty nice vibe all day.
Third: HURRAY for WBCH Byrd House Market and Byrd House Farmlet! The Whole Foods Market 5% Day was a great success – more than $5,700 raised for outreach, infrastructure and marketing for the farmlet and the market! This was especially groovy because the entire staff, executive director and board chair took shifts bagging groceries, handing out literature and sharing the great work of our agency and our nutrition education programs: the market, farmlet and community garden. What a payoff! Thanks to everyone who worked and shopped! Thanks to Whole Foods Market 5% Day and their 5th anniversary in Richmond!

14 Years of Bad Luck
Dinamo Review
Dinamo restaurant was recently reviewed in Richmond Magazine:
You’ll find a full range of flavors here, whenever you drop in: Spicy Italian sausage, polenta and eggs to-order make for a memorable start to the day, one that will stick with you. Sandwiches like the leg of lamb, and the prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella make for a serious lunch. At dinner, the shrimp cappelletti, delicate sheets of pasta that enfold tender shrimp swimming in sun-dried tomato sauce, is subtle in texture and deep in flavor. The anchovies and flash-fried green-pepper crostini presents a funky umami. The clarity of the broth in the tortellini en brodo lets the subtle flavor of the traditional beef, pork and veal filling come through. Mussels and clams bathed in garlic and parsley spark notes all around your palate, and as small plates stack up around you, remember that after dinner you will want to linger over a rich espresso and homemade desserts, so pace yourself.
And there are items here you won’t find elsewhere: matzo ball soup, borscht, corned beef with sauerkraut, whitefish salad. The comfort foods of Anitai’s childhood round out the menu nicely, adding depth and authenticity to the atmosphere of Dinamo as coffee shop, in addition to a dining destination.
