Condolences to VCU Basketball Team Fans
No matter how you look at it, the VCU Basketball Team had an amazing season this year. Even if you were not a basketball fan before, you could instantly become one by watching these guys’ enthusiasm and skill. That goes for the University of Richmond’s team also. Despite VCU’s loss last night, they can be proud of their hard work and determination in getting to the Sweet Sixteen. In doing so, they brought pride and recognition to Richmond and we are thankful. I enjoyed watching the games, while hanging out with VCU alumni friends.
Note to Trani and Mayor Jones: This does not mean that Richmond taxpayers’ money should be spent on a new Coliseum.

April 10th
11am-1pm – Root Force Collective Farm will be hosting a RRFP benefit brunch at SynerGeo in Oregon Hill. 349 S. Laurel St.
1pm-3pm – Our friend, Grace Howard from Philly will be down to teach us about advocating for your health at the Gynecologist’s office, fertility, and STI’s. The first half will be sliding scale $5-$10, and if you have a cervix and want to stay to learn how to view it yourself, stick around for the second half for a total of $7-$13. THIS WILL BE A SAFE SPACE FOR THOSE WITH A CERVIX. Appropriate measures are being taken to insure privacy for those learning to view their own bodies. This will be at the Flying Brick Library.

Councilman Asks For Sledding Fee Study
Following an earlier call for a study of City Stadium’s value, Fifth District Councilperson Marty Jewell has asked for a new study of the value of various sledding hills in the City’s property portfolio.
While no particular properties were singled out, it is reasonable to expect the spectacular Oregon Hill sled runs to be among the subjects of the proposed studies. However, no one in Community Development was willing to speculate on what would happen. “Frankly, we are already missing Rachel Flynn’s, uh…leadership, when it comes to responding to some of these Council requests,” said one anonymous staff member.

Man Arrested In Fine Foods, Looking For Lost Confederate Silver
Bradley Newman, a resident of the 900 block of S. Cherry, and a known drunk according to his neighbors, was arrested by police early this morning in the Fine Foods convenience store on Idlewood.
Although not all the details are clear, he was evidently caught after breaking into the store after closing and spending several hours digging a hole in the middle of its floor. One of the store managers happened to come in early for a delivery, found the elderly man, and immediately called the police who then promptly took him into custody. Newman had been drinking beer stolen from the refrigerated display cases while digging.
Mr. Newman’s slurred comments after his capture were mysterious. They were something to the effect that he was sure he had ‘found it under the chips aisle’. Jailhouse sources say he has not spoken since sobering up.
Fine Foods personel have already refilled and repaired the hole and plan to open as normal.

Joey Rodriguez Avenue
In a surprising announcement this morning, Mayor Jones confirmed to reporters that he has taken steps to officially rename Belvidere Street for a star member of VCU’s amazing Final Four basketball team.
Belvidere Street was originally a small one lane street named after the home of William Byrd III. From this point forward, Belvidere Street will be known as ‘Joey Rodriguez Avenue’, or ‘J-Rod Ave’, after popular Point Guard #12, Joey Rodriguez.
According to news accounts, City workers will begin later this month to replace signage in order to reflect the new name.
Rumor has it that West Avenue in the Fan may get a new name as well, perhaps ‘Skeen Street’.
‘Virginia Jesus’ Bird Sighting In Park
The Richmond Audubon Society released a press release today that confirmed a sighting of a rare ‘Virginia Jesus’ bird on Oregon Hill’s riverside park this past Monday night.
“One of our members was walking down to the river just before dawn and was pleasantly surprised to see the bird sitting on a park bench”, said the group’s President. “We immediately contacted James River Park City manager Ralph White about the sighting.”
Ralph White, who has been ecstatic about the great blue heron rookery on the Pipeline portion of the James this year, was also happy to give more details about this new avian serendipity.
“The ‘Virginia Jesus’ is a species unique to Central Virginia, although it has ‘cousins’ all over the world”, he explained. He went on to say the ‘Virginia Jesus’ bird sighting was another great sign of the James River’s natural recovery after years of pollution and neglect. Most people think of the Australian Jesus Bird, which is famous for it’s ability to walk on water.
