This poor guy has been trying to get around this corner for 45 minutes. I don’t see how he can without demolishing the hydrant. Lucky he had a rider guiding him. This is Cherry and Idlewood. I don’t think these streets were designed to accommodate 18 wheelers…

A neighbor reports this morning:
water leak at idlewood and cherry has taken a turn for the worse. I noticed cars sliding on the long patch of ice that the leak turned into over night while trying to stop at the light. I called it in. I know someone else mentioned calling it in a week or so ago, but the city reported being unable to find an open case on the matter.

DESCRIPTION
Cherry & Idlewood St.: The water is still seeping out of the manhole cover as of Sunday night. I think it had stopped for while on Sunday, but I’m not sure. It’s a fairly small amount of water. BY the way, does “Open” mean no one from the City has looked at this post yet? It’s a holiday weekend, so I imagine there’s not a lot of staff til Monday….

St. Andrew’s School in Oregon Hill is trying to raise $1.2 million to fund some major repairs to its 110-year-old South Cherry Street schoolhouse. The school was founded in 1894 by Grace Arents, heir to the fortune of her uncle, Richmond businessman and fellow philanthropist Lewis Ginter.
Students at St. Andrew’s come from low-income local families, and the school’s mission is to provide them with a quality, progressive education as an alternative to their assigned public school. All students are given full scholarships, and the school provides free breakfast, lunch and a snack each school day.
“The caliber of our education is really high,” said Michelle Rosman, St. Andrew’s director of communications. “We’re trying to get the building and surroundings to match up with that.”
