Oregon Hill Residents Invited To Randolph Nation Night Out Celebration

I don’t know of any National Night Out celebrations in Oregon Hill tomorrow night (sometimes Pine Street Baptist hosts a community movie in Pleasants Park for NNO), but Randolph Neighborhood Association has extended an invite to Oregon Hill residents to join theirs. (One technical note: Oregon Hill is served by the Fourth Precinct, while Randolph is in the Third).

Reminder: PLEASE MOVE YOUR CARS For Street Cleaning

It’s a street cleaning week.

From a neighbor:

***PLEASE MOVE YOUR CARS*** On One Block Alone, I See 13 Cars About to Get Towed. Please TELL YOUR NEIGHBORS to move their cars. Street Cleaning begins today (Monday 8/1). (The illegally parked cars are residents, not commuters).

Also, Cherry Street neighbor Jimmy Blackford requests help-

Who’d Like to Help Me Augment the City Street Sweepers this Monday & Tuesday Morning? . . . Great opportunity to sweep the dead vegetation off the sidewalks & scrape the grass from around the storm drains (thus preventing thunderstorm drainage backups). Plus other tasks you might recommend. . . . . I’ll try to start @ 8:30 or 9:30 am each day. I have some heavy duty scrapers, shovels, rakes & push brooms, but could use more. . . . You may not be joining those mornings. Still, before the sweepers come along, I ask you to sweep the sidewalk in front of your homes (and beyond???). . . . . . Message me at prairiegates@hotmail.com.

Neighborhood Cleanup Announced for August 6th

Cherry Street neighbor Jimmy Blackford announced an Oregon Hill neighborhood cleanup for Saturday, August 6th, coordinated with the help of RVA Clean Sweep.

From the FaceBook event page:

Can You Join Us for Oregon Hill Alley Cleanup? Sat., Aug 6 8am-10am. Meet at Pleasants Park (401 S Laurel St – corner of S laurel & Albemarle St.). All are invited, whether or not you live in Oregon Hill. . . . . You Can Choose One of Two Tasks: 1) A simple litter pickup thru the neighborhood 2) Going thru the alleys throwing furniture/large refuse into a city garbage truck. Either job & you’ll improve our neighborhood immensely. Please wear closed-toe shoes. We’ll supply grabbers, trash bags, gloves & drinking water. (sponsored by RVA Clean Sweep & Oregon Hill Neighborhood Association).

There is also a MeetUp.com page for the event.

6th Annual James River Splash & Dash Coming Up This Weekend

From the press release:

On Saturday, July 16, Richmonders will once again take to the James River for the 6th Annual James River Splash & Dash, presented by Swedish Match and sponsored by Riverside Outfitters. The event, a fundraiser for the James River Association, features a one-of-a-kind 6k trail run or 1 mile walk on Belle Isle followed by an inner tube race across the James ending at Historic Tredegar.

This year a new 1 mile walk option has been added for participants not up to completing a 6k, but still want to participate in the event.

Participants should be ready to have fun, get wet, and navigate an uneven trail with obstacles of all kinds, including rocks, roots, and mud. An after party at the finish line includes live music from Downriver, BackTrack and Sturgeon City, beverages from Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, and food from RVA Street Foodies featuring Richmond’s best food trucks.

Racers age 10 and up are encouraged to participate. Registration is $50 per person, which includes an event t-shirt and beverage ticket.

To register for the event or to learn more about the James River Splash & Dash, presented by Swedish Match and sponsored by Riverside Outfitters, visit www.jrsplashanddash.org by Wednesday, July 13th.
