The Yield sign near Grayland/Idlewood is missing. This is an extremely dangerous intersection even with the yield sign there. This is just east of Harrison Street next to the off ramp for the 195 expressway. There have already been calls to the City and Police about this and it should be fixed soon if not already.
Photos this morning of traffic on Idlewood, mainly from the Monument 10K race. You can see where it’s backing up 195 Belvidere exit.
Speaking of Idlewood, Mayoral candidate/citizen activist Rick Tatnall recently inquired with Councilperson Parker Agelasto about the upcoming Idlewood roundabout project. Agelasto says that the project has been hung up by the Richmond Metropolitan Transportation Authority and legal paperwork for a small easement on RMTA property. There should be a resolution soon on this. It will then go out for bids and construction with the hopes of being completed this year.
The Nextdoor community website suggests that there will be a few vendors there this Tuesday–
Tue, Jan 26, 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM
980 Idlewood Ave, Richmond, VA 23220
The market is continuing! Vendors are still allowed to use the same Byrd House space for awhile longer – stop by and see what’s for supper! On Tuesdays, the Byrd House Market introduces our community to local farmers and vendors of the greater Richmond region: Fruits, vegetables, specialty crops and breads to handcrafted and health-oriented gifts.
The Byrd House Market aims to provide a welcoming atmosphere, where any and all visitors feel comfortable and enjoy the food and supplies purchased to sustain themselves.
They harass me by yelling expletives and walking menacingly toward me (they never ask for money — it’s mostly vulgar catcalls), and I started feeling so unsafe that I modified my route (adding about 10 minutes to my commute) so I could avoid that corner.
The columnist contacted the police about the situation.
Lepley also said that anyone can call the nonemergency number at (804) 646-5100 to report harassment and ask for the sector lieutenant to call back regarding the issue.
One more salient point from the reader’s email:
“What can I do about this issue? I feel really sorry for them, but I just don’t feel safe and I would like to be able to walk to work without fear of facing these really scary situations every morning,” she wrote.
Neighbor says “Child involved. Will be very good to get the roundabout in.”
