New Nearby Development

RichmondBizSense.com has an article on new townhouse construction planned for the eastern portion of Randolph neighborhood.

From the article:

Richmond’s own TriBeCa – a cluster of brownstone three-story homes on the easternmost edge of the Randolph neighborhood – has begun work on six more units, with nine additional detached homes planned next year.

The Lower Manhattan neighborhood’s name is an acronym for Triangle Below Canal Street, and its Richmond counterpart is short for Triangle Below Cary Street. Its inspiration is a triangle of land that is bordered by South Harrison Street and Grayland and Idlewood avenues.

It’s interesting that the article makes no mention of the Idlewood roundabout project, which should be starting construction also.

The Parker C. Agelasto Trash Can

IMG_4065_2

Appreciation again for our Councilperson Parker Agelasto and his wonderful assistant Ida Jones. Thanks to them, a new trashcan has been installed at Idlewood Avenue at Belvidere. This was one that Oregon Hill neighbors had been requesting for sometime (See ‘#9’). When the City’s Department of Public Works told them there was no money in the budget to install new trashcans, Parker and Jones transferred money from the 5th District Discretionary funds to pay for them. These funds typically support communication and community outreach efforts such as National Night Out. In this instance they decided it was important to pay for a City operation.

Water Leak at Idlewood and Cherry

A neighbor reports this morning:

water leak at idlewood and cherry has taken a turn for the worse. I noticed cars sliding on the long patch of ice that the leak turned into over night while trying to stop at the light. I called it in. I know someone else mentioned calling it in a week or so ago, but the city reported being unable to find an open case on the matter.

Here is a previous See Click Fix on it:

Neighborhood: Oregon Hill
Reported: on 2014-11-30
DESCRIPTION
Cherry & Idlewood St.: The water is still seeping out of the manhole cover as of Sunday night. I think it had stopped for while on Sunday, but I’m not sure. It’s a fairly small amount of water. BY the way, does “Open” mean no one from the City has looked at this post yet? It’s a holiday weekend, so I imagine there’s not a lot of staff til Monday….

Sunday Morning Accident

There was a bad accident Sunday morning shortly after 8 am at the corner of Idlewood and Belvidere.

2014-11-09 08.24.45

Paraphrased from a neighbor:

One of the officers on the scene said it was the result of a high speed chase with the suspect apprehended. The officer said the motorist had also struck a bicyclist further west of Oregon Hill. 3-4 cars were involved in the accident, with 2 people taken away in ambulances (the suspect presumably being one of them). There was also speculation from onlookers that the suspect was either mentally unstable or drugs were involved.

Bluegrass Service This Sunday

From email announcement:

On Sunday, October 5, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will hold its 11:00 am Service of Communion outside at the Grace Arents Garden where the Byrd House Market is held. Music will have a bluegrass flavor, and prayers, chants and hymns will celebrate and give thanks for the wonder of creation. You are invited to bring photos or drawings of animals or things in creation that are special to you and/or that you would like to pray for and bless with special intention. You may also bring cut flowers to help decorate the altar. There will be no live pets at this service. All are welcome!
