UCI Bike Events
Folks,
As the aircraft buzz overhead, you may or may not be aware that there has been some debate and controversy regarding the lack of crowds for the Richmond 2015 UCI bike race.
Without getting too far into it, let me just say that while I have been very critical of City projects and chasing tourist dollars, you notice that I have not taken aim at Richmond2015 as much because I am hoping it will lead to better bicycle infrastuctrure and culture in the long term.
Regardless, now is a good time to get out there and enjoy this international event.
Neighborhood restaurant Dinamo has a big welcome:

Also, neighbor Holt Edmunds asked me to make sure people know about this freebie Thursday night, which is for anyone volunteering for the races or biking to the Poe Museum.
He volunteers at the museum and says the bike race has hurt visitation (a bit counter-intuitive). He hopes fellow Oregon Hill residents might want to take advantage of this.
Thanks,
Scott
Neighborhood Businesses During The UCI Bike Race
Mamma Zu’s will be closed for its annual vacation during the UCI Bicycle Race.
Music store Vinyl Conflict will also close during the race.
The City’s Main Street library will be closed, as their facility will be used by race organizers.
What are other neighborhood businesses doing while the race is happening?
L’opossum Made Southern Living’s “The South’s Best Restaurants 2015” List
From the article in Southern Living:
Chef David Shannon’s new venture L’opposum isn’t only idiosyncratic in name. For one, the restaurant is furnished with his personal art collection, which includes Star Wars collectable plates, miniature statues of David, and paintings of punk singers like Nick Cave. Oh yeah, and stuffed possums. The menu contains items with names such as A Mélange of Manikintowne Mesclun and Swashbuckling Bundt Pirate Drenched in Hot Buttered Rum. Try the Les Escargots à la Ham Biscuit i.e. snails on soft biscuits swimming in a sweet garlic beurre blanc.
Congratulations, David Shannon and the L’opossum crew!

What Goes Around, Comes Around
From a recent post on the RVA Fan Lovers FaceBook group, featuring the front of Dinamo restaurant:
Belle Isle Cleanup This Sunday
RVA Clean Sweep is scheduled to work on Belle Isle this Sunday:
Belle Isle is in desperate need of a cleanup, this is the time of the year when the highest number of visitors are out and unfortunately they leave a huge mess. We’ll clean the parking area and then do a loop over to the rocks and back around. It shouldn’t take more than 2 hours at the most. I’ll have trash pickers, gloves and trash bags, please bring water and good walking shoes.
Please go here to sign up to volunteer:

The Belle Isle parking lot on Tredegar Street was completely full yesterday evening and it’s no wonder with accolades still pouring in- outdoor sports store REI has named the James River Parks as one of the nation’s six best river parks. This comes three years after Outside Magazine readers voted Richmond as the Best River City in the country. Richmond will again be featured as a travel destination in the September issue of National Geographic Traveler. Their brief feature “Where to go Next” highlights L’Opossum and the James River Park.
